When setting up systems I sometimes spent very much time finding a solution for a particular problem. After lots of try and error the problem may be solved, however, I seldom write down what exactly the solution path was. And when it comes to reinstalling the system, or when setting up another machine, I encounter the same issues again - unfortunately without knowing anymore how to solve them. And the story starts again...

Therefore, I started writing down all my configurations and settings to remember these at any later point in time. Beginning with a standard wordprocessor (unfortunately, the documents are lost sometimes due to hard disk crashes etc.), then in HTML (which does not look very fancy and is relatively difficult to structure and maintain, however, is globally available for myself and others as well), and now in DocBook XML.
